Dead to Rights

I took one look at you and fell

Rather hard

You said one word

And I knew

I was dead to rights

It happened so suddenly

Your fleeting kisses

We pretended we couldn’t remember

Drunk and infectious

And I realize

You’re a little pretentious

But I didn’t care

Told the truth and took the dare

For a moment

It didn’t matter what you said

How you said it

Even when everything felt a little too bright

Because I was dead to rights

The tears came eventuality

And five months after

When I took you home again

Everyone said

The second times on you

But what I wanted was a sign

That you stoped being my personal

Land mine

My name on your marker board

full of people you disappointed

By the way you like to disappear

The way you couldn’t seem to help your sullen discarding attitude

Putting on a show of bratty nochalence

As if you could take back the time

You got hurt

And everyone was right

The second time I was more of fool

Used like a tool

A fallen soldier who took one ear to your heart

And assumed it was beating

Some things are fleeting

You’re always fleeing

This time it only took four days

To stop replying

To earse your byline

you should have known you didn’t have

time

This time

And I wonder if you think about me at all

If the last time I didn’t respond

Made you remember

You’re still alone

Kicked out every last one

of your fan club members

Do you miss me

When you find no one

In the morning as you turn on the lights

But it doesn’t matter

Because to me

Your dead to rights
