Mothers

The world impresses on us early

That little girls are desperate for fathers

Yes

Desperate for a man to show up

To show them

how to love

We read about these relationships all the time

Girls without fathers are labeled as girls with

“daddy issues”

And we pity them.

But what about little girls who grow up with mothers who didn’t know how to love

Mothers who leave

Mothers who forget to call

Who trade their kids for men

We don’t have a label for that

No snarky nickname

Because mothers don’t leave?

Bc mothers are supposed to love ?

Because we place more importance on men ?

So no you weren’t a girl with daddy issues

Didn’t cry for a father figure you tried to find in

older- meaner- men

You fell on the other spectrum

Watching your mom pick everyone else over you

Time and time again

Watched as you begged her to love you

And how she always chose someone else

Making you feel

Worthless

You wanted your mothers love to you scar you

A big blinding trace that shouted

 “I was here”

“she was loved”

“she was noticed”

You wanted it to hurt you with how

intense it was

Instead it didn’t leave a mark at all

Which in the long run

Hurt much worse

Left you much more susceptible to

Worse love

Love that won’t give

Love you have to beg for

Love that leaves only gaping wounds

Everywhere

The kind that scream

“I was tossed away”

“They hurt me as I lay there”

Love that didn’t care

But you knew

Every time you asked him for more

It was not him you were fighting for

You wanted your mothers love to feel like water in the desert

Instead it left you dry

And every time

Without a goodbye
